The Author
Nico Herz, founder of Bigtone Soundworks, was born in January 1970 into a musically rich family. He started piano at 6 but soon fell in love with synthesizers. Inspired by Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre, he began DJing at 14, drawn to Breakdance, Italo Disco, and early electronic pop.
At 15, he bought his first synth (Roland Juno-60), and by 1989 released his debut record as God’s Groove. He soon embraced Techno, EBM, New Beat, and Acid House, remixing artists like Faithless, LSG, and Captain Hollywood.
By the late ‘90s, he was a respected mixing and mastering engineer, but his true passion remained sound design. With decades of synth experience, Nico became one of the world’s leading sound designers, creating presets for Roland, Korg, Access, and many software synths.
He still produces and DJs—but hand him a new synth, and he’s happiest. Sound design is, and always will be, his greatest love.
